The Greater Accra Regional Hospital Begins Training on MEOWS Chart

As part of efforts to provide quality health care to mothers, the Department of Obstetric and Gynaecology of GARH has started a 5 day training for all midwives in the department on the use of Modified Early Obstetric Warning Score (MEOWS) Chart. The MEOWS chart which is used to document a pregnant woman’s vital signs is a tool that is used  to identify risk and deterioration of patients early enough and therefore prevents maternal mortality. This tool will replace the existing temperature chart that has its own limitations.

Over 150 midwives are expected to be trained over 7 days. The Medical Director, Dr. Emmanuel Srofenyoh commended the department for their continuous efforts in providing quality health care to the people of this country. According to him, this innovation will go a long way to save lives of our mothers who seek for health care in the Greater Accra Regional Hospital. He asked participants to take the training seriously so as to help to reduce the rate of maternal mortality.
